Toshiba sd-4990 region hack

I also have a R1 DVD. The CDR worked fine: I got the screens and all, but it did nothing to my player, other than change the error message when I play region 2 dvds. My guess is this hack was designed for non R1 dvd players, and thus does not work for R1 players, even though the previous poster seemed to have an R1 player What did I do wrong?
